Strike

Each of the 4 targets rolls a saving throw: roll 1 twenty-sided die and add +5 (the target's relevant save bonus). The damage roll itself happens once and applies to every target — what varies per-target is whether they save or fail. Compared against DC 17: a total of 17 or more succeeds (so the d20 needs to land on at least 12). Damage rolled is 8 8-sided dice. On a fail, the target takes the full damage; on a success, they take half (round down). The same 8d8 damage roll determines both — a fail-then-save scenario isn't 'roll again', it's 'take half of the same number'.
