Strike

The target rolls a saving throw: roll 1 twenty-sided die and add +2 (the target's relevant save bonus, e.g. DEX for Fireball). Compared against DC 15: a total of 15 or more succeeds (so the d20 needs to land on at least 13). Damage rolled is 8 6-sided dice. On a fail, the target takes the full damage; on a success, they take half (round down). The same 8d6 damage roll determines both — a fail-then-save scenario isn't 'roll again', it's 'take half of the same number'.
